Catholic Poetry Room stained glass

amidst the silence of the sky
the flowers’ laughter is heard
with the faint melody
of life’s longing

here in this sacred space
my “am-ness” I find:
scent of the Divine
formed in God’s image

at sunrise
I watch my dreams grow
reclaim vanished moments
in each season of goodbyes

love
etched in nature’s smile
in glowing colors of green and blue
in hues of pain, joy and hope

each day I am reborn
growing closer to the sky.

Marietta Lea B. Rosana hails from Tabaco City, Philippines. She is an educator, lawyer and a retired judge in one of the Philippine lower courts. Prior to her appointment in the judiciary, she practiced as a lawyer for sixteen years with a focus on human rights and legal counseling and continues to practice law in her retirement. Her passion for literature, especially poetry, began when she was in high school and, while it took a back seat during her legal career, writing poetry is now her favorite pastime. She firmly believes that poetry serves as the soul of a nation, and that it can strengthen one’s faith. Recurrent themes in her poetry are silence, hope, beauty, justice and God’s love. Her poems have been published in various national magazines, including the Philippine Graphic Magazine and Philippine Journal of Education, as well as the Manila Daily Bulletin (Bulletin Today), a national newspaper.

Since 2019, the Catholic Poetry Room (www.CatholicPoetry.org) has shared a new poem with readers each week. Poems range in style from formal to free verse to ekphrastics, with an honest expression of each author’s spiritual journey. Many Catholic Poetry Room adult readers are new to poetry and find the poems both accessible and enjoyable. The Catholic Poetry Room is also used by Catholic School teachers, who find the poems an excellent way to begin the day with their students, to pray, or use Catholic Poetry Room verse in their academic classes.
