oh the trees
how they run away
with my feathered heart
we can be
believers again
did you hear the birdsong?
the swallows on the creek
sipping water midflight–
be patient and wait
Christ’s love will
dance through the nuthatch
shimmying down the gnarled oak
some day the creatures
of this blessed land,
these nervous miracles
will speak to us
in a language
we can understand
on that day
sweet care and connection
will flow like the Jordan
