An unexpected visit
from an unexpected source,
a gentlemanly greeting
as the day begins its course.
A reverent salutation,
an apprehensive fear,
an instinct to draw quickly back
from one who draws too near.
A pledge of royal privilege,
a skeptical reply,
a reticence for one so low
to set her sights so high.
But, all suspicions settled,
with humble artlessness,
beneath a breathless universe,
an unobtrusive “Yes.”
